Happy Marlo
Happy Marlo is a children’s wellness company that aims to provide parents and caretakers with powerful tools to help their children better manage the emotional roller coaster of growing up.
Children today are facing a variety of issues in their daily lives which affect their ability to focus
Mental health problems are still seen as taboo, especially in children
There is a need for more affordable emotional healthcare options without a long waitlist
It's been shown that holistic techniques such as breathwork and tapping have been effective ways for healthy healing
The Team
The Problem
My team and I set out to create an app to address the issues that affect children, and to carry out Happy Marlo’s mission. My focus was on UX Research, and I also contributed to the wireframes and prototype.
Personas
From our user research, we were able to compile 2 user personas, for both an adult and child.
Next Steps
We had several plans that we hoped to implement:
Adult Flow
Add ability to create child profiles
Allow parents to curate paths for their children
Further enable child progress and filter features for kid profiles
Kid Flow
Create a tablet app
Build out the coloring screen and add more color choices
Add a child check-in similar to the parent child check-in
Show sound progress bar to know how far along you are in an audio file
Develop the Move section
Conclusion
My team and I were able to effectively work together to meet deadlines, conduct weekly meeting with out client and develop an iterated high-fi prototype. The stakeholders were pleased, as were we with the outcome.
Business Goals
We took a look at Happy Marlo’s business goals to see what we could incorporate into the app to achieve their goals.
Happy Marlo aims to...
Offer expert practical advice and resources for parents, alongside tailored holistic healing content for children.
Deliver absolute clarity to their audience on what they are offering and how it will benefit them.
Begin monetizing on their offer and prove product-market fit to investors.
Surveys
The CEO of Happy Marlo conducted a survey before they took on our team to work with. They found that:
Almost all of the children said listening to music made them feel like their best selves.
A majority of the parents have 2 kids.
81% of parents were between the ages of 35-44.
Breath work was seen as the most common form of holistic health methods used by parents and their children.
We used these surveys, along with interviews with both adults and children, to gain insight into our target audience and users.
